McGee Creek Pack Station presents a trail ride through the Alabama Hills with Western Film Historian, Douglas Grieve, showing many filming locations along the way. Some of the movie locations along the trail will be RAWHIDE, THE TALL T, RIDE LONESOME, HELL BENT FOR LEATHER, THE GREAT RACE, and BAD DAY BLACK ROCK, among others. The riders will meet and depart from the parking area of Mobius Arch Trailhead. At the end of the ride, we will return to the trailhead where your car is parked.
Winter Rides
Here’s how it works:
Please call for reservations. On the day of your ride we trailer our horses and mules from their winter pastures to meet you at the specified trailhead in the Alabama or the Tungsten Hills. We’ll enjoy a scenic 2 – 3 hour ride, stopping as often as necessary for photos! At the end of the ride we will return to the trailhead where your car is parked. Rides are private and by reservation only with a two rider minimum. We request that reservations are made at least 48 hours in advance. Rides are available from October (starting with the Lone Pine Film Festival) through April. Generally our ‘off-season’ from the Pack Station!

- 2 rider minimum.
- Rider weight limit: 225lbs.
- Rider age limit: 6 years.
- Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult guardian or parent.

There is a 20% cancellation fee for rides cancelled more than 48 hours prior to the date of the ride.
Bookings cancelled inside of the 48 hour window are non-refundable.

You’ll see: the rock where Gene Autry and his horse Champion stood; the rocks where Hoppy and his sidekick, California hid from a band of renegades; where “How the West was Won” captured the grand and sweeping landscapes of the west; the stage stop in “Rawhide” or where Gene watered his mules in “Mule Train”.
Riding a gentle horse or mule through the Hills offers captivating scenery. Movie history and gentle fall colors roll into sweeping vistas backed by the snow capped Sierra in winter. Spring brings delicate wildflowers and warm rock formations that transport you to a different time.

A gentle ride through the Tungsten Hills along a creek returning around Mule Mountain, with stunning panorama views of the Sierra Peaks and the White Mountains. This ride offers captivating scenery, large rock formations, and sweeping views backed by the snow capped Sierras in winter. Spring brings delicate wildflowers that transport you to a different time just minutes outside of Bishop.
